The decluttering guide

A room-by-room checklist to get your home photo-ready. Print it, check it off, done.

Why It Matters

Less stuff, more offers.

Buyers are shopping for space. Clear counters, half-empty closets and open floors make rooms look bigger, photograph better, and help buyers picture their own life there.

The 4-box method

Grab four boxes for every room: Keep, Donate, Sell, Toss. Anything in "Keep" you won't need for a few months gets packed now. You're moving anyway.

  • Hide cords, remotes, gaming gear and pet beds
  • Open blinds and replace any dim bulbs
Bedrooms
  • Make every bed with simple, neutral bedding

  • Stack remaining boxes neatly against one wall
  • Sweep floors and clear cobwebs
  • Make the furnace, water heater and panel easy to reach
  • Store paint and chemicals safely or dispose of them
Before every showing
  • Lights on, blinds open
  • Counters wiped, beds made, toilets down
  • Pets and pet bowls out of sight
  • Trash emptied; no strong cooking smells
  • Leave the home and take valuables and medications with you
